Vegan and Gluten Free Flour Blend

So, I've been looking around for quite a while, trying to find the perfect blend of gluten free flour. I could just use a pre-made one, but I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to processed/pre-made food. Or anything else that is already made for that matter. If I know I can do it myself, and that it will be cheaper and healthier I kind of feel like if I HAVE TO MAKE THIS MYSELF. Even though I know it's fine if I'm just lazy and get something already all pre done. I'm just weird like that... 

Anyway, I finally find a vegan and gluten free blend that I like and I use in everything now. It comes from the Minimalist Baker, one of my favourite food blog. You can most of the time use it 1:1, if you are using a regular flour recipe. Though, for some recipes, especially for cakes and puddings, I tend to make it this way :

If the recipe call for 1 cup flour, I would use 3/4 cup GF blend and 1/4 almond meal, I think it gives a little extra fluffiness that I really like !

  • 240 g brown rice flour
  • 96 g potato starch
  • 40 g white rice flour
  • 30 g tapioca flour
  • 1 tsp xanthan gum


  1. whisk all the flours together and store it in a sealed jar.

Recipe Notes

It's always good to have different kind of flours at home anyway. Depending on the recipe, you will need one or the other as they all have different properties.

For example, potato starch is very useful when you are making a sauce and you need to thicken it.

Tapioca flour is a vegan must when it comes to making vegan cheese thanks to the chewy consistency and the stringiness it will give.

Brown rice is very nutritious and full of fiber.
